Local radio broadcasts to Bolton
There have been two local radio broadcasts from the DBBC studios to the whole of Bolton and the third is to take to the air in Easter 2007.
In 1997 a 28 day broadcast took place in preparation for bidding for the local licence – 'VARIETY GOLD FM.'’ When a group of over 30 enthusiasts put together a formidable effort.
In 2004 a licence was issued in the name of ‘YOUR RADIO’ and the volunteers put together a 10 day broadcast with the aim of promoting events and activities available to young people during the summer holidays.
The support for this was remarkable and DBBC were delighted when Ken Dodd agreed to record all the station idents and Julie Hesmondhalgh (Hayley from Coronation street) agreed to host two request shows. Other support soon followed and the broadcast was privileged to boast such names as Nick Robins and Allan Beswick from GMR, Bernard Wrigley, local MPs and Councillors - and even 'Lofty the Lion!'
Local media studies students got involved and produced and presented their own shows.
