Community activities

DBBC, with the BMBC events team, put on radio roadshows at weekends throughout the summer months. These can range from big events on the Town Hall Square to small residents’ groups who want to raise the profile of their communities by putting on a gala or a family fun day. DBBC also provides this service for the Bolton Town Centre Management organisation to enhance the events held on Victoria Square.

On these shows we provide a PA system and our excellent compère Andy Haslam to play music and promote whatever is going on, and we give a platform to local young talent such as dancers and singers from arts performing groups. We have tried to get all the groups involved and most of them send their students along when they are not rehearsing. This occasionally leads to a big surprise later on if and when they become famous, such as when Danny Jones, (now of McFly fame) sang on some of our roadshows when he was a young teenager. We also take our shows to Moss Bank Park on a Sunday afternoon once a month to provide '‘Music in the Park.'

Our roadshows not only promote DBBC but allow young talent to perform in public in front of a live audience, many of whom would find it otherwise difficult as they are too young to go into pubs and clubs for karaoke.
